The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ruled to strip Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and instead declare Morocco as the champions of the tournament. This follows CAF’s Appeals Board decision that Senegal forfeited the final match by walking off the pitch.
According to the ruling, under Article 84 of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations regulations, the Senegal national team has been declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025. As a result, the match outcome is now officially recorded as a 3-0 victory in favor of the FΓ©dΓ©ration Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).
This decision overturns Senegal’s original 1-0 extra-time win (scored by Pape Gueye) in the January final, which had been marred by controversy when Senegalese players briefly left the field in protest over a late penalty awarded to Morocco. Senegal’s football federation has stated they will appeal the ruling.
