The Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), Senegal’s football federation, has strongly condemned the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s decision to strip them of the 2025 AFCON title.
In an official statement released shortly after the CAF Appeals Board ruling on March 17, 2026, the FSF described the verdict as “iniquitous, unprecedented and unacceptable”, accusing it of “throwing discredit on African football” and branding it a “travesty” with no solid basis.
The federation vowed to immediately appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, to defend Senegal’s rights and the interests of Senegalese football. This process could take around a year for a final verdict.
Additionally, the Senegalese government has backed the FSF, issuing a separate statement labeling the CAF decision as “grossly illegal and profoundly unjust”, undermining sporting ethics, integrity, and on-field results. They called for an independent international investigation into potential corruption within CAF and affirmed full national solidarity with the team.
